MIDI player recommendations

Windows users:

When you double-click one of the MIDI file links, your Windows system will open it with whatever file you have assigned as the default for files with the type ".mid".  Unless you've changed it, this will probably be Windows Media Player, which is simple to use, but does not have a lot of options for modifying the playback (especially changing the speed/tempo of the piece, and how loud each track will be played).  If you want to do that, try one of the following shareware players that you can install.  If you do, you'll want to change your file type setting so that .mid files will open with the new program.

If you really want to have control of how the files play, try downloading "VanBasco Karaoke" shareware.  It will let you select which tracks you want to play, adjust the speed as you wish, and control the volumes independently.  You might want to create a playlist of these files.  It's very cool...give it a try.

Another shareware player that lets you control the playback tempo and tracks is "MidiPlay".  The web page gives instructions on how to use the program.  One of its interesting features is the ability to see a score of the music as it is being played.

Macintosh users:

You may have to copy the MIDI files to your device, then open them in Garage Band.  They don't seem to open directly by double-clicking them in the ChoralTech web page.  Please contact me if your experience is different.
